Welbeck Land have met with the Tollesbury Parish Council and informed them that they intend to submit another application for 159 homes to the north of West St, Tollesbury in March. The Parish Council informed Welbeck that the recent Housing Needs Survey of Tollesbury indicated that only 50 houses were required.
Nothing from Obsidian or Gladman yet…but most likely to follow.
This is an 8% increase in the size of our village with no promises of any much needed changes to the infrastructure. Welbeck stated that the application would be very similar to their previous one, 23/01160/OUTM, and suggested that the entrance to the site on West St would move 5m east towards the village and that there would not be a pre-school building.
Back in 2023 over 460 of you submitted objection letters to Welbeck’s planning application before they withdrew it and you sent 809 objections to the Obsidian application before they withdrew theirs.
This time let’s beat the number of objections that Tollesbury submitted against the proposal by Gladman, 1531 objections, back in 2019.
New housing targets set by government mean councils need to approve twice as many homes and developers see this as an ‘open door’ opportunity. If one application gets through others will follow and we could have over an extra 400 houses built on farm land in and around Tollesbury as MDC no longer meet their 5 year housing supply.
HART are gathering the troops and preparing to fight this over-development of our village. We’ve been studying the new planning laws, researching the developers and planning the battle ahead.
